Manon Le Roy is a French visual artist and art teacher based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. For about a decade she created experimental choreographic work in which she filmed human bodies immersed in water, in the form of video films and installations.
She earned two Master’s of Arts degrees from the University of Haute Bretagne (France, 2005) and the European Academy of Art in Brittany (École Européenne Supérieure d’Art de Bretagne, France, 2006). From 2008 to 2010 she completed a two-year post-Master’s degree in video & new media at Le Fresnoy - National Studio of Contemporary Arts (art and audiovisual research center, Tourcoing, France) where she directed the videos Continuum and Eleven.
Her work has been screened at international film festivals and exhibited worldwide in group shows in galleries, museums and contemporary art centers, including Musée de la civilisation (Québec); Le Grand Palais, Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo, Bibliothèque nationale de France (Paris); Villa Méditerranée (Marseille); EYE Filmmuseum (Amsterdam); Villa Médicis (Rome); French Institute of Japan (Tokyo). In 2011 Continuum received the first prize at the International Festival of Videodance Il Coreografo Elettronico of Naples and the Barcelona videodance prize at the IDN - Image, Dance and New Media Festival.
She also holds a grade-one teaching qualification in the fields of visual arts and design & history of arts and cultures from the Breitner Academy, Amsterdam University of the Arts (The Netherlands). She has worked sinds 2017 in several schools in the Netherlands and currently teaches art and CKV (Culturele en Kunstzinnige Vorming) in secondary education in Alkmaar.
Her current research interests include audio-visual arts, ArtScience practises en educational projects, history of art education, artist and scientist (auto)biographical writings (including letters, diaries, journals, memoirs, novels) and history of museums.
